Switch Communications Inc. is a privately held company in San Francisco, California. The company, formerly known as Firespotter Labs, was co-founded by Craig Walker (businessman), Brian Peterson, John Rector, and Alex Cornell. The company was founded while Craig Walker was an entrepreneur-in-residence at Google Ventures.

History

Firespotter Labs started in 2011 while Craig Walker was entrepreneur-in-residence at Google Ventures. Prior to that, Craig was CEO of Grand Central (acquired by Google in 2007 and now Google Voice), the CEO of Dialpad Communications (acquired by Yahoo! in 2005 and now Yahoo! Voice), and was previously a venture capital investor at Telesoft and a corporate and securities attorney.

Products

Firespotter Labs, a tech incubator, launched several products including:

  • Nosh: a consumer app to find and review menu items at restaurants
  • Waitlist.me (formerly NoshList): an iPad app for restaurants that sends diners a text when their table is ready
  • Jot.ly: an app to rate everything
  • UberConference: a visual audio conferencing service

In 2014, the company rebranded as Switch Communications, Inc. upon the launch of their new product, a business phone system called Switch.co.

Awards

The company won TechCrunch Disrupt 2012 with their product UberConference. They were also voted as Best Place to Work by SF Business Times, and awarded silver winner in The American Business Awards Telecommunications Company of the Year.
